Ambush foiled & audio from Sunday

On February 20, 2012, in Trinity UMC, by Norman Tippens

Here’s the audio recording of the Sunday, Feb. 19, worship service at Trinity UMC, Lexington.

Lay leader Tom Davis led worship and presented the sermon. The first scripture reader you’ll hear is Ken Newman.

It was another great day at Trinity. I am especially thankful for Tom taking responsibility for worship as part of my planned time off for my Holy Land trip.

Ambush foiled

Vengence is mine, God reminds us in the scriptures.

That doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it happening, though.

I was on the phone with DirecTV yesterday morning when the doorbell rang. I went to the back door and no one was there. So I went to the front. No one there either.

I went back downstairs and continued my conversation with the DirecTV rep, only to hear the doorbell sound again. I will mention that each time our doorbell rings our two dogs explode into fits of barking.

So I told the rep I was going to be walking with the phone while I went to see who was at the door. Back door: no one. Front: no one.

Nancy was next door at Lovey’s and I thought it might be her, but I knew both doors were unlocked.

I finally got an answer when Nancy came downstairs and asked me why I hadn’t gone out the front door to see who was ringing it. It turns out Jessica Hamel was hiding behind our maple tree directing her daughter, Tika, and two other neighborhood youth into a snowball ambush of me. They were lying in wait just below the rim of the hill where our front lawn drops off to the street.

Two snowballs intended for me.

Tika was the designated doorbell ringer.

Fortunately I was on the phone and hadn’t gone out.

It’s sad to see our good friend and regular church-goer Jessica fall into this type of behavior. Then to draft your child into the plot–incredible.

Equally sad is that Nancy was playing along.

And young Tika–she left two huge snowballs on the front porch with a message relayed through Nancy that they were meant for me.

But about that vengance. Nancy told me that while Jessica was waiting for me to leave the house so I could be pelted with wet snow, the sun melted a bunch of snow on a limb above her and baptized her pretty good.

Nice.
